FAMILY SESSIONS

OUTFIT TIPS+TRICKS

OUtfits are hard.

You’re not alone. Choosing the perfect outfit for your session is overwhelming. I’m the type of person who prefers more structure in decision making so I made this guide for like minded people wanting some advice on what to choose. Please keep in mind that you are more than welcome to wear whatever you’d like to the session. These are just my recommendations to make choosing your outfits go more smoothly!

INFO, TIPS + TRICKS

  • Don’t overthink it

Outfits aren’t the main attraction during your session. They absolutely add some spice but what matters more is your confidence and willingness to be silly and fun with me. I don’t want you to get hung up on your outfit choices and be stressed during the session!

  • stick to your style

If you’ve never worn heels before in your life, maybe rethink wearing them for your session. My goal is to make your photos a testament to you and if you’re wearing something you would never wear, that might be a little distracting! I want you to feel like you at your best!

  • neutrals, neutrals, neutrals

When in doubt, wear all neutrals. In my opinion, whites, creams, browns, taupes, blue denim look so good in photos. They are timeless and clean looking. If you add a color, try to stick to just one and change up the shades of that color. For example: Blue jeans, muted blue and some light blue earrings. It’s ok to stray away from this tip but personally, I always appreciate direction of any kind.

  • don’t wear brand graphic tees

I would highly advise against wearing any graphic tees with big, bolded words on them. The classic example to me would be a “Hollister” or “Aeropostale” graphic tee. Maybe that’s not cool anymore but anything with big words draws the attention away from your face and down to your shirt. let your hair down

OUTDOOR SESSION

  • I find it easier to start with one piece of clothing. Find something you love - jeans, a top, a hat - and then build off of that one item! Sticking to mostly neutrals and then adding a pop or two of color always looks so nice! Also, if you’re planning to hang these photos in your home, it might be smart to pick some colors that go along with your decor.

  • Colors I would recommend avoiding most of the time: neons, burgundy or red. (there are exceptions!)

  • Feel free to tell me if you guys have any activities you want to make a part of your session! We could go fishing, biking, hike to a favorite spot, eat donuts, have a picnic, etc. It’s so fun to personalize your session to your family!

  • Locations : Urban or Nature - If you have a specific area in mind, I’d love to know ahead of time! I typically like to chose the location based on you preference of urban or nature and the style/colors of your outfits.

IN-HOME + LIFESTYLE

  • I find it easier to start with one piece of clothing. Whether it be something you love or something your partner loves, start there and build on it. Sticking to mostly neutrals and then adding a pop or two of color always looks so nice! Also, if you’re planning to hang these photos in your home, it might be smart to pick some colors that go along with your decor.

  • Get cozy! Going barefoot or wearing your fave slippers makes your photos look comfortable and relaxed!

  • Feel free to include a pet or incorporate something you guys love - donuts, board games, baking.

  • Let’s plan something for your family to do during the session. Brainstorm what would be a good representation of your family. Some ideas being - playing a board game, baking cookies, making smoothies, playing with toy dinosaurs, building a fort, dance party, reading books, carving pumpkins, campfire, building a snowman, panting, coloring, pizza party, or anything else you can think of. We won’t have the entire session be devoted to the activity but this can help break the ice with kiddos and also will provide you with memories of your stage in life.
